Picture this – golden and ragged-looking crusty loaf of piping hot wholesome bread, steam escapes as you tear in . Warm, and comforting, like a hug. Bliss.

The best part – it take 5 minutes to assemble and 45-50 minutes to bake. It doesn’t get any better.

1.5 cups all purpose flour
1.5 cups whole wheat flour
1½ teaspoons salt
½ teaspoon instant yeast
1½ cups room temperature water
  1. Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, whisk the flour, salt, and yeast together until mixed. Stir in the water until a chunky, thick dough forms.Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest for overnight or for 12-18 hours.
  2. Step 2: When you’re ready to bake, preheat the oven to 450. Heat an enamel coated cast iron  Dutch Oven (or similar) in the oven for 30 minutes. Gently scrape the dough out onto a well-floured surface. Gently shape it into a ball with flour on the outside, keep it covered with plastic until it’s ready to go in the oven.
  3. Step 3: Remove the plastic from the dough. Lift the dough and parchment together into the pan so the parchment lines the bottom of the hot pan (careful careful, very hot equipment) Bake, covered, for 30 minutes. Remove the cover and bake another 10-15 minutes to get the exterior nice and golden brown and crispy.
